Research
Dr Jose Escribano is an Assistant Professor in Transport at Imperial College London, in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research sits at the intersection of operations research, machine learning and transport engineering, and focuses on three areas: humanitarian operations for disaster response and resilience, manned and unmanned airspace management, and multi-modal autonomous fleets.
His doctoral thesis built a framework to design and evaluate humanitarian relief operations using UAVs, accounting for energy consumption, flight trajectories and recharging, and conforming to civil aviation navigation specifications. During his PhD he worked with WeRobotics on UAV field-deployment protocols, and in 2017 he was a consultant with the UN World Food Programme, contributing to the first Humanitarian UAV Coordination Mechanism. He held a JSPS fellowship at Kyoto University on urban evacuation in 2023.
